After scoring the music for Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical production, Bombay Dreams, music whiz A R Rahman is at it again. Rahman, along with Finnish folk troupe Varttina, will write the songs for the stage version of J R R Tolkien's epic trilogy, The Lord Of the Rings.
The Lord Of The Rings has already been adapted on celluloid by Hollywood filmmaker Peter Jackson. The first two instalments of the trilogy -- The Fellowship Of The Ring and The Two Towers -- are international hits, whereas the final chapter, The Return Of The King, is all set to hit US theatres on December 19.

A new agency quoted producer Kevin Wallace as saying, 'We are recreating Middle Earth and we needed music that goes with it to be unique.' He also complimented Rahman on his 'brilliant' and 'exotic' melodies. Tolkien's epic adventure is set in Middle Earth and features a variety of creatures like hobbits, elves, dwarves, wizards, orcs and trolls involved in a tussle of good versus evil. It is said the Elvish tongue, created by Tolkien in the book, took inspiration from the Finnish language.
At a not-so-modest-budget of £ 8 million, this musical adaptation, scheduled to open in London next year, is by far the most expensive in West End history.
