Swayamvaram (1972)

Two young lovers run away from their orthodox families, chasing the romantic dream. They discover, soon enough, what comes after 'they lived happily ever after' -- unpaid bills, mounting pressures and a gradual, yet irrevocable, slide down the social order.

They also discover human beings come in many shades, but in two basic colours -- black and white. Some help, some harm -- life goes on regardless. And then the man dies, leaving behind the wife and infant son to face life at its starkest.
