Vinod Khanna

'If politics is bad and you realise it, then you get in there and try to do something about it'

Jat's the way he likes it.

Which is why son-of-the-soil Vinod Khanna says he chose a seat from Gurdaspur in Punjab over Mumbai or Delhi to contest elections.

'I do not want votes because people are dazzled. I want votes because people believe in me, think I can make a difference,' the two-term Gurdaspur MP said in an interview.

Infrastructure, he had said, was his primary concern as an MP. But now, as India's newest minister of state for tourism and culture, Khanna's priorities are likely to be a little different.

Interestingly, Khanna and Shatrughan Sinha, who are now making their ministerial debuts, had starred as sworn enemies in Gulzar's critically acclaimed Mere Apne early in their career.
