Hansal Mehta, whose previous film Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar (2000), failed to create ripples at the box-office, is back after a long break.

His last film boasted of stars like Tabu and Manoj Bajpai (fresh after his outstanding performance in Ram Gopal Varma's Satya), Chhal stars mostly newcomers.

Not many know that Chhal is Mehta's third film. His first film was Jayate (1998), showcased at the Indian Panorama, Peking and Damascus Film Festivals. However, the film was not released in India -- its producer RV Pandit lost steam after the failure of his other project, Kalpana Lajmi's Darmiyaan.
