FARES
   Train travel is going to be costlier.

Facing resource crunch, the Railways is likely to propose a 5 to 10 per cent hike in the passenger fares in the Budget.

COST CUTTING
  Rationalisation of staff strength and optimisation of workforce besides trimming of allowances will reduce expenses.
HIGH SPEED TRAINS
  The Railways will unveil high speed trains, which can run at 200 kmph.

It will have modern coaches equipped with automatic sliding doors and electro-pneumatically assisted brake system.

BETTER TRAINS
  The Budget will also have several initiatives for improving passengers' facilities at stations and trains to make train travel comfortable.

REVENUE GENERATION
  The Railways will generate substantial revenue through non-tariff sources like such as advertising, parcel-leasing, export of railway equipment and commercial exploitation of railway land.

SWANKY STATIONS
  The redevelopment of 400 stations will also help in garnering additional revenues.

Railways will provide space at trains, stations and bridges for advertisement.

INFRASTRUCTURE
  The Railways will boost infrastructure by giving a fillip to the Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode.

The Railways may moot foreign direct investment (FDI) in infra projects too.

MODERNISATION
  The National Institute of Design (NID) is designing the coaches, making it lively and aesthetic.

The coaches will have pleasant interiors with spacious and well-designed seats.

SAFETY
  Giving a thrust to safety, there will be a provision of two-way swing doors for AC compartments for easy evacuation of passengers in emergency situations.

The Railways also plans to employ more security staff in trains.

GOOD FOOD
  The Budget will unveil plans to ensure better food at stations and trains.
