Nick Leeson, is a former derivatives trader, bankrupted British bank Barings in 1995. The British banking giant collapsed after Leeson, based at the bank’s Singapore branch and handling futures trading, lost £860 million -- the futures markets, wiping out the bank’s cash reserves.
Leeson initially absconded, but was later arrested and jailed in Singapore.
He was released in 1999 and went on to write the bestseller, Rogue Trader. The book has been turned into a movie.
Leeson is now the chief executive of Irish football club Galway United.
