Mercedes-Benz India on Tuesday formally inaugurated its new manufacturing plant and facility at Chakan in Pune.

Present at the launch were chief minister of Maharashtra Ashok Chavan, member of parliament Shivajirao Adhalrao Patil, member of legislative assembly Diliprao Mohite Patil and others.

"The locals from Chakan have really lent their helping hand without which this project would not have seen this day. Industry cannot grow in isolation.

"Though expensive, I am glad that the luxury car market has been tapped. I wish Mercedes-Benz India all the best and wish to assure them that we in the Government are there to support them," said the chief minister.

The new facility was completed within 13 months and is among the fastest green-field projects to be created.

Spread across an area of 100 acres of land and with independent assembly facilities for passenger cars and commercial vehicles, the infrastructure can address future expansion, underscoring the long-term growth plans of the company in India.
