eJeevika: Training rural folk for jobs

February 2, 2009

The pilot work in vocational training of rural youth in retailing started first in Thiruvalluvar and Cuddalore districts of Tamil Nadu. Richa tied up with NIS Sparta, a training company for Reliance Retail. The technical part of the training module was developed by RTBI and a part of the sales module was developed by NIS Sparta. The bilingual content with animation was fully supported by RTBI.

"Ours is a unique module which you will not see in any book for management students. What we have made is exclusively for rural people, addressing the issues they face. We made stories around each instruction so that they understood it well.

"We have modules in life skills also for a rural person. We have to prepare rural people technically and socially for the corporate world. That's why our punch line is, 'Gearing Rural India for the Corporate World'," Richa explains.
