Subbarao has wide experience on issues in public finance and has held important posts in this area for the last 18 years.
He has worked as Joint Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs during 1988-1993 when economic reforms were initiated.
He also served as Finance Secretary of Government of Andhra Pradesh (1993-98) and was actively involved in initiating fiscal reforms at the state level.
He was lead Economist in the World Bank during 1999-2004 and worked on issues of public finance in countries like Africa and East Asia.
