Maruti [Get Quote] Suzuki India reported on Tuesday its highest ever annual sales, registering a growth of 13.3 per cent in 2007-08 over the previous fiscal.
The company said it sold 7,64,842 vehicles in 2007-08 as against 6,74,924 units in the previous year.
Sales in the month of March was, however, down by 2.1 per cent at 70,296 units as against 71,772 units in the same month last year.
During the full fiscal year, domestic sales stood at 7,11,818 units as against 6,35,629 units, a growth of 12 per cent.
Exports also recorded a quantum jump of 34.9 per cent at 53,024 units as compared to 39,295 units in the previous year.
Sale of its entry level car M800 declined by 12.2 per cent at 69,553 units as against 79,245 units in the previous fiscal.
The A2 segment (Alto, Zen Estillo, Wagon-R, Swift) recorded 13.4 per cent increase in sales at 4,99,280 units as against 4,40,375 units in the previous year.
The biggest growth was in the A3 segment (SX4, Swift Dzire), where it registered sales of 49,335 units as compared to 29,697 units in FY07, the company said.
Maruti said it sold 5,658 units of its newly launched mid-sized sedan DZire during March.
During the year FY08, Alto strengthened its position as Indias top selling car, clocking volumes of 2,27,173 units during the year. This is the second consecutive year in which Alto sales crossed the 2 lakh mark, it said.
Hyundai Motor sales up 66%: Hyundai Motor India Ltd reported on Tuesday 66.4 per cent jump in total sales at 47,001 units in March as against 28,239 units in the same month last year.
The company said its domestic sales grew by 52.3 per cent at 29,401 units as compared to 19,300 units in the same month a year ago.
Exports recorded a whopping 96.9 per cent jump at 17,600 units as compared to 8,939 units in the same month last year.
Commenting on the sales HMIL Managing Director H S Lheem said, "The newly launched compact i10 has done phenomenally well. Also with the commissioning of our new plant we are now in a position to meet the growing demand for the domestic as well as our overseas customers and this will help us strengthen our position in the market."
GM sales up 51%: General Motors India reported on Tuesday 51 per cent increase in sales in March at 6,836 units as against 4,542 units in the same month last year.
The company said its March sales was the highest ever monthly figure achieved by GM India since its inception.
The March sales comprise 1820 units of the Chevrolet Tavera, 1589 units of the Chevrolet Aveo, 710 units of the Chevrolet Optra, 2397 units of the Chevrolet Spark and 320 units of the Chevrolet Captiva.
For the April-March of the outgoing financial year, the company said its sales jumped by 71 per cent clocking a total sales of 66,543 units as against 38,857 units in the corresponding period a year-ago.
"Achieving these levels of growth clearly reflects the customers' confidence in the Chevrolet brand and the consistent growth in monthly sales is an indication of the success of all our car lines," GM India Vice-President P Balendran said.
General Motors India is a wholly-owned subsidiary of General Motors Corporation, with a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Halol, Gujarat.
The company makes the Chevrolet Tavera, Chevrolet Optra, Chevrolet Aveo, Chevrolet Aveo U-VA, Chevrolet Optra SRV and Chevrolet Captiva for the Indian market.
