Air Arabia, the first International low-cost airline to fly to India, today launched its services from the city to Middle East.
The city would be the eighth destination for the airline, the first and largest low-cost carrier in the West Asia and North Africa, which had already connected Ahmedabad, Chennai, Jaipur, Kochi, Mumbai, Nagpur and Thiruvanthapuram to the Gulf with 48 flights per week, Kyle Haywood, Commercial Director, Air Arabia, told reporters.
The airline would initially commence services to Coimbatore twice weekly beginning from today and would increase to three times per week, as the route, point to point, was considered to be a productive one, Haywood said.
Airfare for Rs 599 and less! Flights would leave Sharjah International Airport at 08-05 am (local time) and arrive in Coimbatore at 1.35 pm (local time) every Monday and Friday. Return flights would depart at 2.20 pm (local time) to reach Sharjah at 4.40 pm local time on same days, he said.
Saying that Coimbatore is the fourth destination in the South after Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram and Chennai, Haywood added the company would start services from Bangalore next month.
