Young IT professionals should spend atleast five years with the firm they join as it would benefit both the company as well as the employee in the long run, according to a senior official of Wipro.

"Today's trend is to jump from one firm to another," Chandrasekar Dharuman, vice president of Wipro, said delivering a special address at the Second Graduation Day cermony at the Dhanalakshmi College of Engineering near Chennai.

Asking the new graduates to specialise in a particular field, he said today one could find jacks of all trades.

"It is good to have a general knowledge but specialisation in a particular field is a must," he said. Dharuman presented certificates to successful students of Computer Science and Information Technology.

Earlier, Madras High Court Judge Justice K Venkataraman, who was the chief guest at the function, said parents should not to pressurise their wards by making comparisons. "The current tendency of parents is to compare their children with others. Please avoid comparisons," he said.

Exhorting students to face the world with courage, he said most students lacked confidence. "Even though they have the capacity and capability, when put to the test, they always wonder if they could do it. The answer is yes."

Stating that seeking employment abroad, especially in the US had become a routine, he asked them to remember that India also offered them numerous employment opportunities.
