NRI steel baron Laxmi Mittal has donated $2 million for the Tsunami Recovery and Relief Fund, set up by former US Presidents Bill Clinton and George Bush for overseeing United States' rebuilding efforts.

Mittal handed over the cheque to Clinton and Bush Sr, who were asked by President George W Bush to lead the campaign soon after the December 26 disaster, at a ceremony in Washington.

Meanwhile, Exxon Mobil Corporation announced that its employees, retirees, surviving spouses, dealers and distributors combined their contributions with corporate donations to give a total of $11 million for tsunami relief and reconstruction.

ExxonMobil initially contributed $5 million in December and committed to a one-to-one match of employee donations, which totalled $3 million.

"The thoughts and prayers of everyone at ExxonMobil have been with the families and loved ones of those who died in this horrific event and with the survivors as they attempt to put their lives back in order," said Lee Raymond, chairman, Exxon Mobil Corporation.

Exxon Mobil affiliates employ approximately 5,000 people in India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand, and have oil and gas production and petroleum and petrochemical refining and distribution businesses in those countries.
