Sensex gains 60 points, crosses 5,600

The Sensex closed above the 5,600-mark at 5,606, up 60 points. The Nifty advanced 21 points to 1,750.
HLL shed a per cent (Rs 1.50) to Rs 124 following profit warning by its parent company yesterday. ITC swung in an out of positive zone and finally closed Rs 8 lower at Rs 1,177. Reliance gained a per cent (Rs 5) at Rs 507.
Wipro soared over 3% (Rs 18) to Rs 599. While Satyam spurted 2% (Rs 8) to Rs 384, Infosys rallied over a per cent (Rs 19) to Rs 1,676.
ICICI Bank advanced 3.6% (Rs 10) to Rs 289. SBI ended Rs 3 higher at Rs 480, and HDFC Bank finshed unchanged at Rs 406. ONGC and HPCL gained a per cent each at Rs 760 and Rs 337, respectively.
Hindalco surged nearly 3% (Rs 34) to Rs 1,284. Tisco spurted over 2% (Rs 6) to Rs 290.
Cipla gained 3.5% (Rs 10) at Rs 285. While Ranbaxy surged over 2% (Rs 23) to Rs 1,104, Dr.Reddy's was up Rs 2 at Rs 752.
HDFC advanced 2.4% (Rs 15) to Rs 630. Maruti zoomed 2.5% (Rs 9) to Rs 360. Bajaj Auto rallied over a per cent (Rs 11) to Rs 955. While Tata Motors was up Rs 2 at Rs 414, Hero Honda finished Rs 3 lower at Rs 450. Grasim shed 1.3% (Rs 15) to Rs 1,154. While ACC moved up a rupee at Rs 275, Gujarat Ambuja declined a rupee at Rs 343.
Tata Power advanced over 3% (Rs 8) to Rs 313, and Reliance Energy gained Rs 5 at Rs 638. Zee slumped 3.5% (Rs 5) to Rs 148, following news that the Indian cricket board cancelled the cricket telecast rights tenders.
Sensex @ 1500
The Sensex is hovering around the day's higher levels at 5,598 - up 52 points. The Nifty is at 1,747 - up 18 points.
Tecnology stocks have extended gains on the back of fresh buying. Infosys has rallied Rs 21 to Rs 1,679, and Satyam has spurted Rs 7 to Rs 383. Wipro has rallied nearly 3% (Rs 17) to Rs 597.
Zee is down over 4% (Rs 7) at Rs 147 following the news that the BCCI has cancelled the tender for cricket telecast rights.
Ranbaxy is up 2% (Rs 23) at Rs 1,104. Cipla has gained 2.7% (Rs 7) at Rs 283, and Dr.Reddy's is up Rs 3 at Rs 753.
HLL and ITC are trading at Rs 124 and Rs 1,178, respectively. Reliance is up Rs 6 at Rs 508.
ONGC has moved up Rs 6 to Rs 759, and HPCL is up Rs 2 at Rs 335.
HDFC is up 2% (Rs 12) at Rs 627.
Sensex @1416 hrs:
The Sensex is up 41 points at 5,587. The Nifty is at 1,743 - up 14 points.
Zee has plunged 4.5% (Rs 7) to Rs 147.
Ranbaxy and Cipla are holding gains of 2.4% each at Rs 1,108 and Rs 282, respectively. Dr.Reddy's is up Rs 2 at Rs 752.
HLL has recovered most of its losses and is now down a per cent at Rs 124. ITC has slipped Rs 7 to Rs 1,179. Reliance is firm at Rs 507 - up Rs 5.
Infosys is up Rs 11 at Rs 1,669, and Satyam has gained Rs 4 at Rs 380. Wipro has extended gains to Rs 588.
HDFC is up 2% (Rs 12) at Rs 627.
The BSE Metal index is firm at 4,897. The BSE BANKEX, PSU and Health Care indices have posted smart gains at 2,734, 3,562 and 2,524, respectively.
SAIL has topped the volume chart on the BSE, and the counter has clocked a volume of around 89.44 lakh shares followed by Maruti (35.76 lakh), Zee (29 lakh), Tisco (23.51 lakh) and Oriental Bank (19.10 lakh).
Maruti tops the value chart with a turnover of Rs 127.47 crore on the BSE. It is followed by Infosys (Rs 93.49 crore), Reliance (Rs 91.06 crore), Tisco (Rs 67.93 crore) and TCS (Rs 59.37 crore).
Sensex @1337 hrs:
The Sensex zoomed to an intra-day high of 5,600 on the back of fresh buying in pharma and technology stocks. The index is now hovering around the same higher levels at 5,599 - up 53 points. The Nifty has zoomed 18 points to 1,747.
Pharma stocks have rallied on the back of fresh buying. Ranbaxy has surged 3% (Rs 32) to Rs 1,113. Cipla is up 2.7% (Rs 7) at Rs 283, and Dr.Reddy's has gained Rs 5 at Rs 755.
HLL is langushing around the Rs 123 levels. ITC has slipped back into negative zone and is now down Rs 4 at Rs 1,182. Reliance is firm at Rs 507 - up Rs 5.
Infosys and Wipro have rallied a per cent each to Rs 1,673 and Rs 587, respectively. Satyam has spurted over a per cent (Rs 5) to Rs 381.
Hindalco is stagnant at Rs 1,284, and Tisco has moved up 2% (Rs 6) to Rs 290.
Fertilizers & Chemicals is still locked at the 20% upper circuit limit at Rs 34.55. Ramco System has zoomed over 9% (Rs 25) to Rs 293. Neyveli Lignite, TVS Motors and IBP have gained around 6% each at Rs 54, Rs 80 and Rs 593, respectively.
Hindustan Zinc, Gujarat Ind Power, Sterlite Industries, Saw Pipes, National Fertilizers, Bombay Dyeing, Finolex Cables, Sterlite Optical, Siemens, BEML, Mastek RCF and HC Technologies have also posted smart gains.
Maharashtra Seamless, Nestle, Videocon International, Indo Rama, Colgate, Engineers India, IPCA Labs, Finolex Industries, Hexaware, Federal Bank, Titan, Raymond, Chambal Fertilizers, Gujarat Narmada, Alok Industries and J&K Bank have declined 1-2% each.
Sensex @1257 hrs:
The Sensex is moving in a narrow range of 15-20 points, and is now up 34 points at 5,580. The Nifty is at 1,740 - up 11 points.
HLL has recovered from lower levels but is still 1.5% down at Rs 123.50. While Reliance is firm at Rs 506, ITC is trading flat at Rs 1,185.
Technology stocks have descended from the day's higher levels. Infosys and Wipro are up Rs 4 each at Rs 1,662 and Rs 585, respectively. Satyam is up Rs 3 at Rs 379.
While Hindalco has pared gains and is now up 2.5% (Rs 31) at Rs 1,281, Tisco has extended gains and is now up 1.4% (Rs 4) at Rs 289.
Bajaj Auto is up 1.6% (Rs 15) at Rs 959. Maruti is up Rs 3 at Rs 354, and Tata Motors has gained Rs 4 at Rs 415. Hero Honda continues to languish in negative zone at Rs 450.
Zee has spurted over a per cent (Rs 2) to Rs 156. Bharti Tele and MTNL are up a rupee each at Rs 149 and Rs 126, respectively.
The BSE Metal index is firm at 4,900. The BSE BANKEX and Auto have gained a per cent each at 2,727 and 2,348, respectively. The BSE FMCG index is down 0.6% at 936.
Sensex @1215 hrs:
The Sensex rallied to a high of 5,584, and is now up 33 points at 5,579. The Nifty is at 1,740 - up 11 points.
HLL is steady at Rs 123. While ITC has rebounded into positive zone and is up Rs 2 at Rs 1,187, Reliance has moved up Rs 5 to Rs 507.
Hindalco is trading firm at Rs 1,284, and Tisco has spurted over a per cent (Rs 4) to Rs 288.
SBI and HDFC Bank are up Rs 3 each to Rs 480 and Rs 409, respectively. ICICI Bank has rallied 1.4% (Rs 4) to Rs 283.
HDFC has advanced nearly 2% (Rs 12) to Rs 627.
Bajaj Auto has zoomed nearly 2% (Rs 18) to Rs 962. Maruti has pared gains and is now up Rs 3 at Rs 354. While Tata Motors is up Rs 4 at Rs 415, Hero Honda has slipped Rs 3 to Rs 450.

National Fertilizers, TVS Motors, Gujarat Ind Power, Ramco System, Sterlite Industries, RCF, Saw Pipes, CESC, National Aluminium, BEML, SAIL and Ispat Industries are up 2-5% each.
Gujarat Gas has slipped over 4% (Rs 20) to Rs 460. Engineers India, Colgate, Maharashtra Seamless, Indo Rama, Federal Bank, Indo Gulf and Exide are down 1-2% each.
SAIL has topped the volume chart on the BSE, and the counter has clocked a volume of around 72.51 lakh shares so far. Maruti (25.87 lakh), Reliance (12.91 lakh), Tisco (12.41 lakh) and Hindustan Zinc (10.61 lakh) have also logged good volume.
Maruti tops the value chart with a turnover of Rs 93.45 crore so far on the BSE. It is followed by Reliance (Rs 65.99 crore), Infosys (Rs 53.88 crore), Tisco (Rs 36.09 crore) and SBI (Rs 34.10 crore).
Sensex @1128 hrs:
Fresh buying mainly in Reliance and select other stocks saw the Sensex rally to an new intra-day high of 5,577. The index is now up 29 points at 5,575. The Nifty has advanced 10 points to 1,739.
HLL is down nearly 2% at Rs 123 following profit warnings from its parent comapny yesterday. ITC has shed Rs 8 at Rs 1,177. Reliance has rebounded into positive zone and is now up Rs 4 at Rs 506.
Infosys has advanced Rs 10 to Rs 1,668. Satyam and Wipro have gained Rs 5 each at Rs 381 and Rs 586, respectively.
Hindalco is up 3% (Rs 37) at Rs 1,288. Tisco has spurted a per cent (Rs 3) to Rs 287.
SBI and HDFC Bank have advanced Rs 3 each to Rs 480 and Rs 409, respectively. ICICI Bank is up Rs 2 at Rs 281.
HDFC has rallied over 2% (Rs 13) to Rs 628.
Maruti has rallied 2% (Rs 7) to Rs 358. Bajaj Auto is up Rs 5 at Rs 949, and Tata Motors has gained Rs 3 at Rs 414. Hero Honda, however, is down Rs 3 at Rs 450.
Cement stocks continue to remain weak. Grasim is down Rs 10 at Rs 1,160, and Gujarat Ambuja has lost Rs 3 at Rs 341. ACC is trading a tad lower at Rs 273.
Cipla is up 2% (Rs 6) at Rs 281. While Ranbaxy is up Rs 3 at Rs 1,084, Dr.Reddy's is down Rs 3 at Rs 747.
Tata Power is ruling firm at Rs 310, and Reliance Energy has moved up Rs 3 to Rs 636.

The Sensex moved to an intra-day high of 5,561, and is now up 12 points at 5,558. The Nifty has gained three points at 1,732.
ITC is down Rs 8 at Rs 1,177. HLL has declined a per cent (Rs 1.50) to Rs 124. Reliance has shed Rs 3 to Rs 499.
Infosys is up Rs 4 at Rs 1,662. While Satyam is up Rs 3 at Rs 379, Wipro is down a rupee at Rs 580.
Hindalco has surged nearly 3% (Rs 35) to Rs 1,285, and Tisco is up a rupee at Rs 286.
HPCL has lost a rupee at Rs 332, and ONGC is down Rs 3 at Rs 749.
Maruti has zoomed over 2% (Rs 8) to Rs 358.
Cement stocks are under selling pressure. Grasim and Gujarat Ambuja are down a per cent each to Rs 1,157 and Rs 340, respectively. ACC is down a rupee at Rs 272.
Tata Power has rallied 2% (Rs 6) to Rs 311, and Reliance Energy is up Rs 2 at Rs 635.
Pharma stocks are exhibiting a mixed trend.
The BSE Metal index has rallied a per cent to 4,860. The BSE BANKEX, Auto, PSU and TECk index are also in the positive ground at 2,718, 2,332, 3,541 and 1,417, respectively. However, the BSE FMCG index is down at 935.
Sensex @1005 hrs:
The Sensex opened a tad (one point) higher at 5,547, and soon slipped into negative zone to touch an intra-day low of 5,536. However, fresh buying at levels - mainly in technology stocks - saw the index rally to an intra-day high of 5,559.
The Sensex is now up 11 points at 5,557. The Nifty has gained three points at 1,732.
ITC is marginally up at Rs 1,180. HLL and Reliance are trading flat at Rs 125 and Rs 502, respectively.
Infosys is up Rs 9 at Rs 1,667. Satyam and Wipro have gained Rs 4 each at Rs 380 and Rs 585, respectively in early morning deals.
Cipla and Maruti have spurted 1.6% each to Rs 280 and Rs 357, respectively.
Tata Power has rallied a per cent (Rs 4) to Rs 309.
