Chaebol LG Household & Healthcare is targeting a turnover of around Rs 150 crore (Rs 1.5 billion) in the first year of its Indian operations. The FMCG company entered the market through a sole licensee arrangement with the Chennai-based India Household & HealthCare Ltd.

The company on Thursday unveiled its range of premium products across 8 categories-toothpastes, shampoos, detergents, soaps, diapers, cleaners, cosmetics and hairstyling products. The licensee will be initially importing and selling the products in the country.

C H Kim-vice president, LG Household & Healthcare, said, "India is one of the fastest growing markets in Asia. The sheer size and potential of the market coupled with low penetration levels made it attractive for us to enter India. Worldwide LG Care has been among the top FMCG companies in about 40 countries and is growing rapidly."

The diversified conglomerate has established a presence in India in consumer electronics, telecommunications, information technology and chemicals. LG Care's products are positioned at the premium segment of the market and the company plans to be a leading FMCG player in the next three years.

Globally, the $1.5 billion LG Household & HealthCare has a presence in 20 categories and has over 200 products in its portfolio.

It is also planning to rope in high profile Bollywood and television stars and models to endorse its products. In LG's consumer electronics business, it has roped in famous Indian cricketers to endorse its products. The company will be appointing 400 dealers in urban and semi-urban areas across the country.

LG Care has entered India at a time when the some of the categories in the FMCG sector are declining such as toothpastes, detergents and shampoos.

Post the price cuts announced by HLL, the largest consumer products company and Procter & Gamble in shampoos and detergents, their respective brands have witnessed a shift in their market shares.
