Nandan Nilekani and Mukesh Ambani have made it to the list of the world's most respected business leaders, based on a Financial Times-PricewaterhouseCoopers survey on corporate reputation.
While Nilekani is placed 35th, Ambani is 40th in the list of 63 business leaders. This is the second time running that the two have found a mention in the list. While Nilekani was 45th in the previous list, Ambani was 33rd.
The list is headed by Bill Gates of Microsoft, followed by Warren Buffett of Berkshire Hathaway, Jack Welch (retired) of General Electric, Carlos Ghosn of Nissan and Hiroshi Okuda of Toyota.
The rankings form a part of the FT-PwC World's Most Respected Companies Survey. In its sixth edition, the survey was carried out among 1,000 CEOs across 20 countries and a cross-section of non-government organisations, fund managers and media commentators.
The survey also ranks Reliance Industries 32nd among 51 companies that create the most value for their shareholders. In the last survey too, Reliance was 32nd. It is the only Indian company to feature in the list. Microsoft tops the list, followed by GE, Wal-Mart, IBM and Toyota.
In addition, Tata Steel has been ranked 34th among 54 companies that best demonstrate their commitment to corporate social responsibility. Again, Tata Steel is the only Indian company in a list headed by Microsoft, followed by Toyota, GE, IBM and British Petroleum.
There is no Indian entry in the list of the world's most respected companies. The list of 72 is headed by GE, followed by Microsoft, Toyota, IBM, Wal-Mart and Coca-Cola.
Within India, the FT-PwC survey has listed Infosys Technologies as the country's most respected company, followed by Reliance Industries, Tata Steel, Hindustan Lever, Tata Motors and Ranbaxy Laboratories.
No Indian company has made it to the ranks of 48 companies that demonstrate the most integrity and 47 companies that have the most effective corporate governance.
