Hyundai launches Accent Viva CRDi

January 15, 2004 13:48 IST

India's second-biggest carmaker Hyundai Motor India on Thursday launched the common rail direct injection (CRDi) version of Accent Viva and said it would launch the compact car Getz and premium sedan Elantra by the middle of this year.

The company aims to sell 200,000 units in calendar 2004 over 150,000 units sold in 2003, while exports would go up to 70,000 units over 30,000 units shipped in the last year, HMIL president B V R Subbu said.

The CRDi version has been priced at Rs 655,000 (ex-showroom) he said, adding the price would be uniform across India.

Discounting reports of postponing the launch of Getz and Elantra, Subbu said both the vehicles would be launched by June this year.

"The Viva CRDi is expected to attract a new niche of mid-size customers and perceptibly expand Accent's market share in the C segment," HMIL managing director J I Kim said.

HMIL, which entered the country in 1998, rolled out its 500,000th vehicle from its Chennai plant in December 2003.

The Indian subsidiary has recently been turned into a global production base for compact car Santro which is being exported as Atos Prime.
