Free rail travel for govt job aspirants from Sept 6

August 31, 2004 14:23 IST

Unemployed persons up to the age of 35 years, appearing for interviews to central government jobs, would have a free rail travel facility from September 6.

The free train ticket facility would be for basic mail and express fares in second class only -- sleeper class excluded, an official release said in New Delhi on Tuesday.

However, other charges like reservation fee, super-fast fee and safety surcharge would be realised in full, it said.

The tickets would be issued by the station managers and station masters on production of call letters, the release said.

For those appearing for interviews to jobs in state government offices, government undertakings, universities and public sector banks, the existing provision for grant of 50 per cent concession in second- or sleeper-class would continue, it said.

Railway Minister Lalu Prasad had made an announcement in this regard in Lok Sabha in his budget speech.
