Tata Teleservices on Friday announced the launch of its Wi-Fi service at both domestic and international airports in Delhi enabling air travellers to use high-speed Internet.

The service would be available at a cost of Rs 30 for 30 minutes at domestic airport and Rs 60 at international airport, Naresh Malhan, chief operating officer, Delhi circle, said.

For a 60-minute surfing card, the charges are Rs 50 at domestic airport and Rs 100 at international airport.

"Air travellers and frequent fliers can avail Wi-Fi service at domestic and international lounge of Delhi airport and security zone after check-in," Malhan said, adding that the company had bagged the contract from Airports Authority of India about a year back.

Asked about the investments, Malhan said the company invested about Rs 20 lakh (Rs 2 million) to set up the infrastructure and pointed out that operational expenses for running the system on day-to-day basis were quite high.

He, however, said that "we are expecting to achieve the break-even from this segment in 12 months of operations."

Tata Teleservices would also launch the service at Bangalore and Chennai airports. The company was in the process to signing memoranda of understanding with some other airports in the country to provide Wi-Fi services.

The company would also provide access cards to travelers to make their laptops Wi-Fi enabled.
