"The rise in exports has been across the board... in all sectors," he told reporters on the sidelines of a seminar in New Delhi.

Pointing out that the growth had been despite the hardening of the rupee, he said sudden downturn in August could only be considered as an exception.

Earlier while speaking at the seminar on `WTO: challenges and opportunities', organised by Nothern Region Council of Chartered Accountants, he said imports were also going up reflecting the pick up in economic activity.

He said gems and jewellery sector was importing large part of its requirement of gold and precious stones and exporting it after value addition. The same was happening in various other sectors, he added.

Import of large quantity of machinery and capital goods showed that the economy and industrial activity was on a revival path, which is a very positive indication, he said.
