Iraq war has not hit imports, exports: Jaswant
May 02, 2003 13:10 IST
There had been no significant impact of the United States-led war against Iraq on India's foreign exchange earnings or on its exports and imports, Finance Minister Jaswant Singh said in the Lok Sabha on Friday.
He said exports and imports had registered growth rates of 19.67 and 18.76 per cent, respectively.
The overall investment climate in Maharashtra, Delhi, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka has resulted in these states attracting more foreign direct investment than others, he said, replying to a query during Question Hour.
The government has put in place a liberal FDI policy and most of the sectors have been placed under the automatic route, barring a small negative list, he said.
Maharashtra led all states with FDI inflow of Rs 4,866 crore (Rs 48.66 billion) in 2002, followed by Delhi with Rs 2,994 crore (Rs 29.94 billion), Tamil Nadu Rs 1,341 crore (Rs 13.41 billion) and Karnataka Rs 893 crore (Rs 8.93 billion), he said.
The total FDI inflow in the year stood at Rs 16,123.35 crore (Rs 161.233 billion) compared with Rs 15,841.90 crore (Rs 158.419 billion) in the previous year, he added.
