Maruti gives Rs 19.84 cr cheque to govt

India's largest car maker, Maruti Udyog Limited, has presented a dividend cheque of Rs 19.84 crore (Rs 198.4 million) to the government.
Heavy Industries Minister Subodh Mote, who received the cheque from MUL joint managing director J Sugimori, said complacency should not come in the way of making India's largest carmaker, Maruti Udyog, a global auto giant.
Mohite said efforts should be made to tap the export market while proper thrust should be made for quality improvement and product development.
He wished the company success for its public issue slated to hit the market on June 12.
MUL announced a 40 per cent rise in profits to Rs 146.4 crore (Rs 1.46 billion) for 2002-03 and a 30 per cent dividend with a total outgo of Rs 42.7 crore (Rs 427 million).
