Telco likely to phase out old trucks

January 17, 2003 20:38 IST

Automobile major Tata Engineering (Telco) has said while it launches new truck models it might phase out older models.

While launching the EX series of medium and heavy commercial vehicles on Friday, company's general manager (commercial vehicles) Syam Mani said: "There is a possibility that the old trucks are likely to be phased out after the introduction of new models."

"It all depended on how the market responded to the new models."

However, the company would continue to manufacture spares of the older versions in addition to providing service support to the buyers for the next ten years.

The experience with new launches had been extremely satisfying and most of the truck sales were from these models, he said.

In the previous financial year, the company sold nearly 82,000 commercial vehicles, including trucks and buses.

In the current year, the company sold 73,000 vehicles in the first nine months, up from 55,000 in the same period previous year.
