USAID, ICICI and CII to foster green businesses

February 05, 2003 19:08 IST

Confederation of Indian Industry with the support of Government of Andhra Pradesh, the house of Godrej and technical assistance of United States Agency for International Development have established the CII-Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre at Hyderabad, which was launched during the visit of the then United States President Bill Clinton to India in March 2000.

Since then, the activities of the centre have commenced and an exclusive Green Building is being set up at Hyderabad to house the centre and CII is aspiring to achieve the prestigious "Platinum Rating" of USGBC under their LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) program.  So far, only two buildings in the world have achieved the Platinum Rating.

CII-Godrej GBC will be the "Centre of Excellence" in Energy, Environment and Climate Change activities.

CII and ICICI on Wednesday signed an agreement, during the National Council meeting of CII to formally launch the GBC-USAID Global Development Alliance Project, which aims to foster Green Businesses in India.

The project would also facilitate Indo-US business partnerships on green technology transfer, development and commercialisation.
