Bharti Infotel launches Wi-Fi service

Bharti Infotel on Friday announced the launch of Wi-Fi service over digital subscriber line in Delhi, Haryana, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, a move that would enable subscribers to surf the Internet wireless at their homes and offices with speed upto 8 Mbps.

"With the launch of wireless roadband, accessing the Internet from anywhere in the office or home anytime will be a possibility. Netizens can now enjoy broadband Internet connections upto 8 Mbps from anywhere along with added convenience of always-on connectivity," Bharti Infotel Ltd president Badri Agarwal said at a news conference in New Delhi.

The services on DSL would enable Internet speeds upto 8 Mbps, with freedom of access anytime, anywhere in the house or office and on always-on basis.

The company also announced its joint working with world's largest chip company Intel to promote usage and deployment of newer technologies and development of applications for wireless services in the enterprise and home segment.

In the case of residential customers, Bharti is offering a package of DSL modem with Wi-Fi, and one Wi-Fi card for laptops at Rs 12,995 for existing DSL users.

For new customers, the company is offering DSL modem with Wi-Fi and one Wi-Fi card for laptops at Rs 14,995.

"Touchtel has also made broadband experience affordable by launching DSL packages of 128 Knps at the rate of Rs 550 per month," he said.

"In addition, Bharti also plans to foray into 4th generation - broadband wireless services, and successful trials have been completed in Bangalore, Mumbai and Cochin. The 4th generation of wireless services will enable fast and affordable bandwidth, upto 2 Mbps anywhere, anytime at locations where Touchtel network is not available," he said.
