Tata Indicom Enterprise Business Unit, the specialised sales and marketing team of the Tata group's telecom service providers, has notched up Rs 100 crore (Rs 1 billion) revenues within three months of its existence.

Ajay Pandey, president, TIEBU said, "We have taken a holistic view of our client requirements. Most of the revenues have come from the information technology and IT enterprise solution segments. Of the Rs 100 crore revenues earned, around Rs 75 crore (Rs 750 million) will go to Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd, Rs 12-13 crore (Rs 120-130 million) to Tata Teleservices Maharashtra and the balance go to the rest of the members."

TIEBU is the single point interface through which VSNL, Tata Teleservices, Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) and Tata Internet Services offer services to corporate customers. Tata Net is expected to shortly join TIEBU.

Pandey said the company is tapping business process outsourcing, software as well as manufacturing companies.

"We definitely expect growth in these areas, especially from multinationals who are setting up backoffice operations in India and have outsourced their infrastructure requirements to us in terms of data centre, IP-based virtual private network services."

"This business enterprise is organised itself to offer vertical groups to suit different needs of the telecom business," Pandey added.

TIEBU has been created with highly specialised team of 100 experts across eight cities and 55 of them were drawn from within VSNL, TTSL, TTML and Tata Internet. This business enterprise expects to achieve Rs 550 crore (Rs 5.50 billion) by the end of March 2004.

Prior to the formation of TIEBU, the group's total telecom business from the enterprise space (from the customers under TIEBU's purview) was around Rs 250 crore (Rs 2.50 billion).

To understand and service the unique telecom requirements of customers, TIEBU has organised itself in industry vertical groups.

By leveraging the domain expertise both within the Tata group and various group companies, TIEBU develops and markets communications solutions to industry groups such as banking & financial services, manufacturing & process, IT-enabled services, IT, transport, tourism & hospitality and government services.
