Y V Reddy calls on FM

August 04, 2003 18:45 IST

Y V Reddy, executive director in the International Monetary Fund, on Monday met Finance Minister Jaswant Singh in New Delhi for the first time after being appointed as the next Governor of the Reserve Bank of India.

Official sources described it as a "courtesy call".

When contacted, the former RBI Deputy Governor told PTI: "I am still with IMF. I will assume charge of RBI after Governor Bimal Jalan vacates his post."

He did not give any time frame for that.

The RBI Governor was also in town and is believed to have attended important meetings with government officials.

Indications are that Reddy will take charge as RBI Governor after the annual meeting of the IMF slated in late September.
