Your Views: The decision to do away with all deductions is good to make the procedure simple. But when you have a 12 salb pay scale in the central govt itself it will not be fau\ir to have 2 slabs for IT. Suggested: Upto 1,20,000- no tax 1,20,000 to 3,00,000-10% 3,00,000 to 6,00,000-20% and above 6,00,000-30%

Your Views: The proposals are very unfair to the middle class as they are the ones who end up paying the exact tax due to the govt. Mr. Kelkars proposal to tax the agricultural sector are a bit farfetched as the politicians themselves shall be the first ones to object to the same as they constitute the major vote bank.Businessmen earn a lot more than what they actually show and they have all the deductions available such as depreciation after debiting their total household expenses to their P & L. Middle class people on the whole consists of salaried individuals who pay professional tax on a monthly basis to teh govt. and at the same time shell out the maximum tax receipts of the govt inspite of not having any of the deductions available to the businessmen. even the petty perks that are given to then are taxed by the govt. Mr. Kelkar should tke the initiative of recommending tax slab lower than the ones proposed in case he advocates removal of the standard deductions and savings exemptions. The slabls could be 10% upto 4.00lacs and 15% above 4.00 lacs.

Your Views: Mr.Kelkar wants salaried and middle class people to pay tax regularly to enable banks and governments to provide loan to our industrialists, who want interest rate to be reduced and payment option - to pay back or not to pay back loan-left to themselves. It is sin to save by middle and salaried class for their future

Your Views: The proposal are very unfail for middle class group. The proposals are totally absord. There is no clear cut policy on the INCOM TAX till today. As an employee of a limited company i have to pay the tax but what about the business people who don't pay single n.p. since they don't show their income. Kelkar's proposal also silent on this. It is better if reduce the tax percentage to less than 10% upto 3 Lakh income to encourage honest tax pyers. Govt. India has to give a serious look on his proposals and also should clear how they are going to utilize these funds generated by this tax system. a unbais debate is required on his proposals. We are completely against to his proposals.

Your Views: kelkar might have been a previlaged man who has earned a lotwithout much accountability. he might have been in a very sound comfortable position with lots of bank balance . in the prsent day india there is nobody to think for middle class. government should have devise a process to mobilise the resources through honest spending and accountability. they should not make the middle class an experimental animal for every financial experiment. india is made up of poor and middle class. if they rise up there will be a great revolution. so be aware before implementing a death trap for middle and poor class of people. jai hind

Your Views: I simply fail to understand why all of these so called experts attack the salaried class. Since the time of taxation, it is only this class which has been paying taxes on full income. I am sure most of the business houses in the country do all the tricks to avoid the tax. This is certainly not possible in the case of the salaried class. In other words I would not be wrong to say that the salaried class has been "feeding" the revenues by paying tax genuinely and on time (TDS). After 50 yrs of feeding or more, what we see is that all experts attacking us. I fail to understand why? Also, Rs 5 Lacs is surely not a high salary to withdraw the exemptions. In my opinion this limit should be raised to atleast 12 - 15 lacs. The logic behind std. deduction is to provide some sort of deduction to any employee who has some certain cost of employment. There is no logic as why this be withdrawn for high salary earners. I strongly condemn the taxing of the poor salaried class who have been the most sincere and faithful citizens of the country! Regards, Pratik

Your Views: Whenever the Government talks of taxing. It is about taxing the Middle Class people only. Only 2% of the entire population is paying tax. The government should think of widening the tax base instead of burdening the Middle class. Who ever is having food for three or more times a day should be asked to file tax returns. The government is always having an eye on the Middle class earnings. They forget about the business class. Nobody pays tax while buying Gold Jewellery and other house hold items such as TV, Refrigirator etc., If we pay in cash then no tax at all. The government should really do something about these kind of Business people if they really want to do something instead of deducting tax at source for the middle class people. Middle class people pay a lot in tax. Atleast the government should introduce some kind of Social Security Scheme as in other countries. During old age the government should repay atleast some part of the tax paid by Middle class people.

Your Views: Tax is income for the Government, which is needed to run a State. The State should have strategy to raise taxes. The advisors should "advise" the Govt and not "make" proposals. The logical way is to define tax income of the Govt as a % of GDP. Hence any "proposal" should start from GDP. There are different sectors, which contribute to the GDP - agriculture, infrastructure, service, trade, entertainment, mfg, auto, export etc. First thing the govt should do is to analyse how much tax is coming out of each sector. This should include how much tax the workers from each sector contribute to direct taxes. Depending on this, the Government or the "Kelkars" should come out with a framework of how much tax they need to generate from each sector, taking into account the social considerations like employment generation, potential new investments, indirect taxes generated etc. A good example is Petrol ( per litre in Delhi Rs 30, Bangalore Rs 35 ). Take into account excise and sales tax. It is a known fact that trade ( and traders ) is not fully taxed. The sales tax in reality is purchase tax. Not even 10% of trade are taxed. Please break your head, not the tax-payer's.

Your Views: I feel that Kelkar Committee is in the right direction but government should stagger the implementation of changes over three to five years. Secondly, there is a great scope to reduce borrowing costs of the government to almost 2% to 3% p.a. from present day 8 to 10% p.a. Bharat Momaya

Your Views: The current govenment want to increase the direct tax revenue from the present tax payers but doing nothing to increase revenue & the number of tax payers. The Direct Tax Proposals given by Kelkar may yeild more revenue in short run as they will be able to fetch more milk from the already milking cows i.e. the current tax payer. But in long run it will not increase the number of tax payers. Kelkar proposed direct 20% tax from 1 lakh,I want to ask Mr kelkar that does he know the Gross income of a poor Paan vendor or a truck driver and are they paying tax(But in rules they fall into tax payer category). And does kelker knows the number of small businessmen earning above 10 lakhs per annum and paying tax.I want to say that govenment should try to widen the tax range, means they should try to increase number of tax payers not the tax.Who will be happy for giving 20 to 30% of his income as a tax. This type of taxation remembers days of British Raaj.On the one hand govn. is trying to private all basic services and on other hand they want tax,Why and for what?.Income tax sholud have more tax slabs starting from 5% & max upto 15%.Tax payers should be given rebates, priorities to motivate tax.

Your Views: It is most unfair to remove the standard deduction to the employees. Also the small savings wil help them to have some revenue at emergency cases. No point in paying money to LIC or such organizations which helps only his famly after his death. It is stupidity to chnage the present system and introduce this new system. I am totally against this policy.

Your Views: Abolishing deductions and exemptions on savings in ridiculous. This will not only discourage people from savings but also incurs a huge loss to the Govt. Govt will not get much needed money in the forms of NSC,NSS and PPF schemes which are very essential for Govt funding not to mention the interests generated in the housing sector. Even most developed nations like USA still have standard deduction and exemption to savings in college education, housing etc and is aggressively proceeding towards further tax cuts. Instead of abolishing such exemptions, more sincere efforts should be made to bring more people into paying the correct taxes and that should be the way of increasing the tax revenues for the Govt.

Your Views: The indtroduction of 2 slab rates without any surcharges is a welcome step. This helps easy calculation of tax. However, It is very unfortunate that the removal of tax rebates is going to hit badly the salraied class perticularly working in Industries, where they hardly any extra income. I govt sector the rampant corruption helps the salaried class to manage their families with little salary. Hence, a relook is needed in this sector. II- It is surpising that the sa called educated and knowledgeble class BJP can ingnore the basics so cooly. Like they can cutdown the expenditure on politicians, burocarats, cut their salaries and perks and offer real service to the nation instead of targeting the salaried class. III- Why business communites are spared freely. iv- It is advisable that they stop targeting slaried calss failing which BJP will loose power. I trust our esteed Fianace minister will have a relook at the proposals before finalising

Your Views: I have read the full report. I fully agree with the recommendations made by M/S Kelkar and team. I can't agree more with the recommendation to tax agricultural income as this is the source of max amount of tax evasion. Regarding the elimination of tax sops (house-building loans and investments), I think they will be more than compensated as a result of the lowering of tax percentage. Our policy makers should show some gumption to implement these proposals. I know that writing this is likely to be futile in view of the conflicts between political agenda and plain commonsense. Still, I hope that someone, somewhere will listen.

Your Views: as the salaried middle class person is already hard pressed with the exorbitant taxed and reduced interest rates, it will be a further burdon over him and is totally un fair to lift all exemptions. it is evident that the salaried class is getting almost nothing in return of the taxes paid , unlike the western countries.

Your Views: I feel the recommondations are fair. The tax collection has to made easy. Once this in place all other kinds of taxes are to be removed like profeesional tax surcharge on what we pay as tax. The savings like PF and other government organisation savings like NSC on registration etc should abolished. There should be value addition to the amount we pay. The service people(Beurocrats, polititions othe govt orgs) should be made to realise that they are there because people are there not vise versa.

Your Views: I think its time to sit back and enjoy what you earn as there is no scope for savings and investment.also its time for the insurance companies to close shop as tax exemption is the bait for they use to lure the salaried class. Mr. Kelkar has earned his bit from a long career as a govt servant, so he's least bothered. The middle income group is the one which will be the worst affected. The poor dont have to worry. The rich {corporates} have got their taxes reduced. The middle class will start going below the thin red line called poverty. I think somebody was speaking about plans to eradicate poverty by bringing everybody above the poverty line. I must have misinterpreted the lines like rajya and rashtra
