Wipro sees back-office work for Microsoft

Indian software services giant Wipro Ltd said on Wednesday it expects to expand its relationship with Microsoft Corp by supplying back-office services to the world's largest software company.

"We are in the process of launching business process outsourcing for Microsoft," Wipro Vice-Chairman Vivek Paul told reporters after a meeting with Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates, who is on a four-day visit to India.

"All I can say at this point is that clearly that's an area that we see growing," said Paul, adding that more details were likely in a month's time.

Paul said Wipro currently has 150 employees engaged in offering high tech software services to Microsoft in India and abroad.

Wipro has more than 200 clients including General Motors and Nortel Networks.

Wipro recently entered the back-office service business with the acquisition of New Delhi-based Spectramind eServices, which offers business processing services like payroll, bill processing and customer call management.

Wipro's shares were up 2.02 per cent at 1,469.25 rupees in afternoon trade at the Bombay Stock Exchange while the benchmark exchange index was up 0.39 per cent.
