4 Indian-Americans in WEF tech pioneers' list

Four Indian Americans - Vikram Verma, Sanjay Parekh, Dev Gupta and Amish Mehta - are among the 40 'Technology Pioneers for 2003' named by the World Economic Forum.

With over 12 years of global logistics infrastructure experience, Savi Technology is a leader in global supply chain security and asset management. Verma, president and CEO of Savi is involved in ongoing dialogues with world economic leaders on a variety of far-reaching issues affecting business and society, such as how innovative technologies can improve the global community by transforming the way business and society operates.

Savi Technology works with leading freight transportation carriers, shippers, service providers and owners of supply chain assets to create unique solutions that ensure vastly superior management, visibility, and security of shipments.

"This significant recognition of Vic (Vikram) is well deserved because he has been the driving force behind the development of some of the most innovative and productive technology available today," said Geoffrey Moore, founder of The Chasm Group, and who wrote about Savi in his book "Crossing the Chasm," on the strategic marketing of technology.

Dev Gupta is the founder, president and CEO of Narad Networks, a business services software and broadband access company that creates new business models for cable operators through its True Broadband solution.

True Broadband includes a comprehensive software suite for the creation, provisioning, and management of end-to-end broadband services. Narad's broadband access network leverages the vast, unused portion of cable networks by providing switched gigabit Ethernet over the existing last mile of coaxial cable without affecting current cable services. Narad is the only company capable of delivering switched gigabit Ethernet over the existing HFC (hybrid fiber-coax) network.

Narad's True Broadband solution allows cable operators to offer a whole new range of cost effective, premium IT services such as data back-up, disaster recovery and outsourced storage and IT services to a new customer base - small-to-medium businesses.

Prior to Narad, Gupta founded two other companies -- MaxComm Technologies and Dagaz Technologies.

Dev holds a BS in electrical engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, MS in electrical engineering from the University of Maine, and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Massachusetts. He is the author of several technical papers and holds numerous US patents.

CommercialWare is the world's leading provider of software solutions for multi-channel retailers. Amish Mehta chairman, of the firm is responsible for charting CommercialWare's strategic direction and promoting the company's innovative software technology.

Amish has extensive experience in developing and directing strategies for companies focused on building technology solutions for retail, logistics and fulfillment industries.

Amish joined CommercialWare from General Atlantic Partners, a global venture capital firm where he identified key investment opportunities and provided strategic direction to technology executives in emerging technology markets. Prior to General Atlantic Partners, Amish was with McKinsey & Company. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a BS in Engineering and a BS in Economics from the Wharton School.

CommercialWare powers retail commerce for more than 90 leading retail brands.

CommercialWare retail.dot.commerce is a comprehensive solution for multi-channel commerce - from web storefronts, to order management, fulfillment, and customer service. CommercialWare collaborate.dot.commerce is a robust solution for hybrid supply chains - connecting the retail enterprise to the extended supply chain and fulfillment networks.

Sanjay Parekh's extensive history in technology and product development and deployment have shaped the rapid and successful growth of Digital Envoy. Prior to co-founding Digital Envoy, Sanjay was a founding employee of Arris Interactive, where he played a pivotal role in various markets throughout the US, Asia and Europe for product deployment.

Sanjay has an electrical engineering degree, specialising in computer engineering, from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Sanjay is also a member of IEEE and the Young Entrepreneurs' Organization.

Digital Envoy has developed the most accurate and reliable location-based technologies available, and are recognised for its commitment to growing and supporting strong, mutually beneficial partnerships aimed at improving the value of customers' solutions.

In a statement laus Schwab, president of the World Economic Forum said: "These companies are true pioneers - their importance lies in how their discovery and development of radical and transformational technologies may present us with alternatives to how we live or do business."

The World Economic Forum an independent international group of corporate leaders committed to improving the state of the world had created the Technology Pioneers programme in partnership with Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu in 2000.

Each year, the Forum selects up to 100 Tech Pioneers and invites them to speak at their annual conference, which will now be held at Devos, Switzerland next year.
