Pepsi revamps organisational set-up

Parul Gupta in New Delhi

In an organisational revamp, PepsiCo India Holdings Pvt Ltd has reconfigured its existing regional structure in order to increase the width of its distribution and to gain greater flexibility in leveraging resources.

The company has now created five market units including north, south, west, east and central with each region being looked after by a separate director.

Earlier, while the company had three directors looking after COBOs in south, west and north-east, the other two directors were looking after the franchisee operations across the country.

The person looking after the north and east company owned bottling operations (COBOs) market unit was also looking after the neighbouring markets.

Essentially, the distinction between control of COBOs as well as the franchisee owned bottling operations (FOBOs) has been removed.

Each regional director will now look after the COBOs and FOBOs in that particular region. The director looking after east market unit operations will also look after the markets of Bhutan, Bangladesh and Nepal.

"The previous COBO/FOBO organisations cut across disparate territories and served well in building a substantial distribution network. The organisation structure in the market units is being reconfigured to reflect geographic contiguity and greater commonality of consumer types and seize new market opportunities," Jeswant Nair, executive director (human resources), PepsiCo India Holdings said.

Nair added: "Constructing regions based on contiguous territories will enable us to utilise our resources better. The intermix of COBO and FOBO in the market units now will help us provide a strong senior resource pool of line and staff managers to both kind of operations with the added opportunities of cross learnings and transference of best practices both ways."

Apart from the flagship Pepsi cola brand, the company owns brands including Mirinda lemon, Mirinda orange, Seven Up, Tropicana range of fruit juices, Aquafina water and Lehar range of snacks.

Early this year, the company had added Pepsi Aha in its portfolio which is Pepsi with a hint of lemon.

The company officials claim that the brand has notched huge volumes.
