Northern Ireland biz team to visit India

Information technology leaders from Northern Ireland are among a delegation of 14 companies on a five-day visit to Mumbai from November 13 to build business in India.

The delegation, led by Dr Diljit Rana, a leading figure in the Indian community in Northern Ireland, also includes exporters specialising in biotechnology, civil engineering, road construction equipment and consumer goods, a release from Indo-British Partnership said.

Commenting on the trade mission, organised by Invest Northern Ireland, Rana said, "I believe the business opportunities in India for Northern Ireland companies are substantial, particularly in the areas of infrastructure projects, IT, and consumer goods."

Martin Bell, INI's Mission Manager, said India's emergence as a major player in software industry provides significant scope to IT firms to develop alliances and technology transfer arrangements that could benefit their business in the South Asia/Asia Pacific region.

Northern Ireland companies can also offer Indian businesses a platform for expansion into Europe, which is soon to become the world's biggest marketplace, he said.

The delegation includes five IT businesses, including two contact centre operators, Answercall and HCL Technologies, the latter is a joint venture between New Delhi-based HCL Technologies and British Telecom, the release added.
