Bill on social security in winter session of Parliament

As part of its commitment to provide social security to all sections of the workforce in the country, the government will introduce some legislations during the winter session of Parliament, Labour Minister Sahib Singh Verma said on Monday.

Inaugurating a two-day national seminar in New Delhi on 'Advocacy for Social Security and Vulnerability Reduction', he said the major concern before the government was providing old age security to 90 per cent workforce engaged in unorganised and informal sectors.

Verma said steps have to be taken for providing old age income security to the working population. The minister later released a document on the 'Directions for future strategy on social security in India', brought out by the National Academy for Training and Research in Social Security, the apex training wing of the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation which is organising the seminar.
