OPPI welcomes new Patents Bill

Organisation of Pharmaceutical Producers of India on Friday welcomed the Patents (second amendment) Bill, but said several of provisions in the Bill "dilute the intellectual property protection to the detriment of the patent holder."

The organisation further argued that the Bill favours local manufacturers who are not the patent owners.

OPPI, an organisation representing primarily research-based international and Indian companies said in a statement that the Bill "is a step forward in implementing the government's avowed objective of designing a new system to capitalise the opportunities of the knowledge driven economy."
