CBI denies investigating Sinha-Flex Industries links

Onkar Singh in New Delhi

The Central Bureau of Investigation has denied media reports that it is looking into the alleged links between the Union Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha and Flex Industries.

Ashok Chaturvedi, owner of Flex Industries, has been booked in a duty evasion case and is also under scrutiny in a bribery case involving former chief excise commissioner Someshwar Misra.

He is suspected to have close links with several top politicians.

It has been alleged that Sinha had used the services of Flex Industries during his poll campaign.

These allegations also fuelled speculation that he could be replaced by either Divestment Minister Arun Shourie or External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh in the next Cabinet reshuffle.

However, a senior CBI official denied that Ashok Chaturvedi had taken Sinha's name during his interrogation.

Chaturvedi had told interrogators that he had footed the bil for three parties hosted by then cabinet secretary Prabhat Kumar.

Following this revelation, Kumar had to resign from his post as governor of Jharkhand.
