Singapore may vie for India airport stakesThe Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, through Alterra Partners, may bid for stakes in Indian airports, the Straits Times newspaper reported on Thursday. Alterra is owned equally by Britain's Bechtel Enterprises and Singapore Changi Airport Enterprise, a unit of CAAS. Alterra senior vice president Tony Gollin was quoted as saying that the group was interested in Indian airports but had not made a decision on which ones to bid for. The Indian government plans to sell off four of the country's main airports in New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata on 30-year leases to the private sector. "We have not made a decision on our approach yet," Gollin told the paper, adding that Alterra had participated in bidding conferences organised by the Indian government. Alterra is also leading a consortium bidding for the administration of Cyprus's airports. In April 2001, CAAS bought a 50 per cent stake in Alterra, which runs Luton airport outside London and international airports in Peru and Costa Rica. ALSO READ:
