Indian Airlines slaps insurance premium on faresState-run Indian Airlines, the country's No 1 domestic airline, said on Friday it will levy an insurance surcharge from October 1 to meet increased costs from insurance premiums. The airline said it would levy a surcharge of Rs 100 ($2.09) on domestic ticket prices and a $2.0 surcharge on international tickets. Its overseas destinations comprise Gulf countries and south-east Asia. Airlines around the world have begun to levy an insurance surcharge to cover part of the additional premiums charged by insurance companies following the September 11 hijacked plane attacks in the United States. The move follows similar action by Singapore Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Qantas Airways, Malaysian Airline System and Air New Zealand in the past week. YOU MAY ALSO WANT TO READ:
