Dasmunshi demands Sinha's resignation

Congress chief whip in the Lok Sabha Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi has demanded the resignation of Union Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha, saying an impartial inquiry into the UTI scam was not possible as long as Sinha remained in the Union Cabinet.

"The involvement of Prime Minister's Office and Sinha in the UTI scam has already been proved beyond doubt," Dasmunshi alleged while talking to reporters.

Dasmunshi, however, said if Sinha was asked to quit the cabinet in view of the UTI scam, he could create problems for Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Criticising the government for its inaction in tackling the UTI mess, he said till the last day of the recently-concluded monsoon session of Parliament, the government had not made it clear what steps it intended to take to help the small investors whose money was lost due to the UTI scam.

About Trinamul Congress's return to the National Democratic Alliance, Dasmunshi said they would soon realise that they have not done the right thing by doing so.
