Rational, Vignette team up to market tools for e-business sites

Fakir Chand in Bangalore

Rational Software Corporation India Ltd, the wholly-owned subsidiary of the US-based Rational Software, has entered into a partnership with the US-based Vignette Corporation to jointly market its latest suite of tools for building e-business sites of end-users by software developers.

The Rational suite ContentStudio combines its ClearCase solution with the technology of Vignette to address the needs of software companies developing content and code in complex e-business applications.

"The latest suite of tools helps e-business developers to manage both code and content in a common repository. Incorporating Vignette's content management server, our ClearCase technology will manage all the artifacts within an e-development project," said Rational India country manager M K Bharatee in Bombay on Tuesday.

Said to be the first product that integrates market-leading code and content management technologies into a unified solution, the suite is priced around Rs 300,000 for a node-locked license and Rs 515,000 for a floating license.

"With more business the world over migrating to the web, integration of code and content has become an exciting opportunity as well as a challenge.

IDC has estimated the market for e-business tools in India to be around Rs 2 billion.

To tap the potential, we are appointing dedicated partners across the country who have expertise in the knowledge management," Bharatee stated.

According to Vignette India managing director R K Gupta, the strategic alliance with Rational will give a technology edge to Indian software developers, who are focused on source code management for the web or static content management.

"Our customers can now migrate conveniently and expand to dynamically generated pages, besides personalisation, syndication, relationship management, and multi-channel communication using Vignette applications."

The $815-million Rational Software provides an open platform for software development and professional services.

About 90 of the Fortune 100 and 49 of the Fortune e-50 build software with the Rational suite of products.
