Fiat India to relaunch Uno Trend

BS Corporate Bureau

Fiat India has announced the relaunch of the Uno Trend, the low-priced variant of the Uno, with a 1.2 litre engine. The company's flagship brand has seen a sharp fall in sales, touching a low of 600 units in April. Fiat also announced the launch of CNG versions of the Uno and the Siena, which will be targeted at the taxi segment.

The Uno Trend, which was earlier launched with a 999 cc engine, will be available in two additional colours and have a new look interior, R Picello, commercial director said.

While the petrol version of Uno Trend will cost Rs 329,000 (ex-Delhi), the diesel variant will carry a price tag of Rs 375,000. It will occupy the low-end space of the B-segment, in order not to clash with the Palio, which is expected to be positioned at the high-end of the segment. The CNG versions of the Uno and the Siena, on the other hand, will be costlier over their standard versions by approximately Rs 40,000, which is the entire cost of the CNG kit.

The company is hopeful that sales of the Uno will triple and the CNG-version Siena will sell about 150 units a month, following these initiatives. However, the fate of the mid-sized car Siena is likely to suffer as the company is pooling most of its resources including production capacity, for the launch of the Palio. The company plans to produce 50,000 units of the Palio in the first year of launch from a total installed capacity of 60,000 units at its Kurla plant.

The company, which is planning to launch the Palio before Christmas this year, is expecting to add 20 more dealerships to its existing setup by end of this year to increase the strength of its dealer network to 75.
