Vijay Desai leaves Sage to form Silicon MonitorEla Dutt
Sage Inc, provider of digital display processors for PC monitors and consumer display products, on Wednesday announced that Vijay Desai, vice-president and general manager of its systems business unit dealing with board level products, has left the company to form Silicon Monitor Inc. Desai's new company will be designing and assembling smart flat panel modules. Sage said that it looks forward to developing a business relationship with Silicon Monitor by supplying the company's high performance monitor ICs. Silicon Monitor's Web site is still under development and Desai could not be reached for comment. Desai joined Sage in September 1996. From 1989 to 1996, he was responsible for the establishment and the management of Sharp's US west coast computer component sales office. He saw the Sharp's sales from the office peak at over $250 million. Prior to that he held a number of top managerial positions at Intel, AT&T and Siemens, where he gained extensive LCD and graphic chips marketing and product experience. He has a BS-EE from MS University Baroda, India, an MS-CS from Stevens Institute of Technology, New Jersey, and an MBA from University of Phoenix in Phoenix, Arizona. Sage Inc provides digital display processors, enabling superior picture quality for a variety of consumer technology and PC-display products ranging from Web appliances to TVs and flat panel monitors. Through its recent acquisition of Faroudja Laboratories, a company that won the Emmy award for technology, the company also provides high-end home theatre equipment. Sage was founded in 1994, by Chandrashekar Reddy, its president. From 1984 till he founded Sage, Reddy held a number of design and program management positions at Intel Corporation, where he concentrated on VLSI designs and architectures covering a wide range of PC products including PC graphics and multi-media, chipsets and advanced microprocessor designs. He received several awards for his product development and management skills. He has a BS-EE degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and an MS-EE degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He has filed for a number of patents, one of which has been awarded to date. |
