India, Austria to form a group on power

India and Austria have agreed to establish a joint working group under the Indo-Austrian joint economic commission to work out the modalities for better co-operation in hydro-power.

This emerged during the discussions between Union power minister Suresh Prabhu, who is now on a visit to Austria, and Austrian federal minister for economic affairs and labour Martin Bartenstein a government release said in New Delhi.

Prabhu also held discussions with representatives of the Austrian power industry.

He said India had huge potential of about 150,000 mw of hydro-power and so far it has been able to generate 25,000 mw, which is 25 per cent of the present power generation capacity.
