Restrictions on imports from selective ports removed: Maran

The government has decided to withdraw the notification restricting imports of about 300 sensitive items including 200 agricultural items to only certain ports.

The notification restricting imports of 300 items to limited ports had been issued in order to facilitate the collection of such data.

''We have since analysed the import figures for April 2001 and based on quick estimates, we find there has been no floodgate of imports,'' Commerce and Industry Minister, Murasoli Maran, told the chief minister's conference on WTO and Agreement on Agriculture and Food Management, in New Delhi.

Maran said as a result of these developments, he has decided to withdraw the notification.
