JV partner for Bangalore International Airport by June 30

The joint venture partner for the Bangalore International Airport project, which has received a boost in recent months, would be finalised by June 30 this year, Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna said on Friday.

Announcing the schedule for the country's first-ever JV airport project, costing Rs 13 billion, after inspecting the site at Devanahally, near Bangalore, Krishna told reporters that the signing of the agreement and financial closure would be completed by January 31, 2002.

Work on the project would commence by February 2002 and the first phase was expected to be completed in about 30 months from the date of its commencement, Krishna said. He expressed confidence that the airport would be commissioned by December 2004.

Krishna said the ambitious project had to suffer from inordinate delays following indecision and lack of will power, but refused to identify those responsible for it, saying "it is for you (press) to blame any one."
