Anti-dumping duty on caustic soda from France, 4 other countries

BS Economy Bureau

India's anti-dumping directorate has recommended the imposition of anti-dumping duty on caustic soda imported from Saudi Arabia, Iran, Japan, the US and France.

In the final findings issued on Monday, the directorate general of anti-dumping and allied duties has recommended a penal duty of the difference between the landed price of the product and the price specified by DGAD ranging between $266.9 and $319.4 per metric tonne.

The complaint was filed by Alkali Manufacturers Association of India on behalf of the Indian industry alleging dumping of caustic soda (sodium hydroxide) from Saudi Arabia, Iran, Japan, US and France.

DGAD took into account the normal value and export price at ex-works level to arrive at a fair comparison and found a dumping margin ranging between 52.58 per cent by Saudi Arabian manufacturer Sadaf and 305.6 per cent by French manufactures.

The designated authority has established that caustic soda imported in different forms had been dumped in the country below its normal value and had resulted in injury to the Indian manufacturers.
