Centre not keen to buy Enron power, feels Deshmukh

The Union Government was 'probably not keen' on purchasing excess power generated by US energy major Enron-promoted Dabhol Power Company's second phase, Maharashtra Chief Minister, Vilasrao Deshmukh, said on Tuesday.

"We had asked the Centre to purchase DPC's power through NTPC or Power Grid Corporation, but looking at the stance of the concerned minister, it seems the Centre may not agree to our suggestions," Deshmukh told reporters in Nagpur.

Maharashtra is not in a position to consume the phase-II power, he said regretting that the Centre's response was 'not a positive one'.

He admitted that some allies of the ruling Democratic Front in the state were still opposing the second phase and that there was no change in their policy.
