India revises Feb industry output growth to 2.8%

India revised on Friday the industrial output growth figures for February to 2.8 per cent from the earlier 0.6 per cent, the Central Statistical Organisation said.

"This has been done due to upward revision in the source data," a CSO official said.

Data released in April showed industrial production growth had plunged to 0.6 per cent in February from 8.2 per cent in the same month a year ago.

"The indices for February 2001 for the mining sector have undergone a downward revision of minus 3.1 per cent, while those of manufacturing and electricity sectors have been revised upwards by 2.8 per cent and 1.1 per cent, respectively," a CSO statement said.

Manufacturing sector growth was down to 0.6 per cent in February 2001 from 8.5 per cent in the year-ago period. Electricity was down by 1.1 per cent in February, while mining sector growth was 2.5 per cent.
