Banks' cash with RBI at Rs 2.7 trillion till May 8

Indian commercial banks had cumulative cash balances of Rs 2.71 trillion ($57.85 billion) with the Reserve Bank of India until May 8 in the current two-week reporting period that began on May 5.

The data was released on the RBI website www.rbi.org.in on Friday.

The RBI had, in its Monetary & Credit Policy statement in April, said it will release information on banks' cash balances, maintained with the RBI as part of cash reserve ratio requirements, with a time lag to stabilise market expectations and curb volatility.
