Advisory panel on international trade reconstituted

The government on Tuesday reconstituted the 17-member advisory committee on international trade to discuss the ongoing negotiations with WTO and also to examine the non-tariff barriers against Indian goods and actions taken to dismantle barriers.

The new panel, headed by Minister for Commerce and Industry Murasoli Maran, will also have periodic deliberations on legislation and administrative action on international obligations, apart from recommending strategies for increasing market access for Indian goods, an official release said in New Delhi.

Other issues that will be taken up for discussion are the analyses of the implications of various changes in the global commercial scenario as well as other issues that the ministry raises from time to time.

The members of the committee include commerce secretary Prabir Sengupta, former foreign secretary, Muchkund Dubey, former ambassador to Gatt, B L Das, former commerce secretary, P P Prabhu, director general of CSIR, R A Mashelkar and members from industry chambers, research institutes and non-governmental organisations.
