Qualis eyes Goa's tourist vehicles segment

Sandesh Prabhudesai in Panaji

Qualis, the multi-purpose vehicle from Toyota Kirloskar Motor Ltd, is targeting the tourism segment in Goa. It is working out special package schemes for the taxis operating for hotels.

Sandeep Singh, general manager (marketing), TKML, said that half its market would be promoted vigorously in the tourism segment as the vehicle is preferred by families for comfortable travel.

While Goa has around 10,000 tourist vehicles, almost 80 per cent of them are Maruti Omni vans. Now, owing to oversaturation, the government has stopped issuing permits for new tourist vehicles.

"We plan to promote the Qualis as a replacement for the existing vehicles by tying up with financial institutions and banks," says Amarsinh Patil, Goa-based executive director, TKML.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor Ltd opened its 29th showroom, Sharayu Toyota, in Goa on Monday.

According to Singh, Qualis is an ideal vehicle for transporting tourists due to various comforts it accords.

Satoshi Aoki, director of marketing division, disclosed that the company is now planning to enter the medium car market with a high-quality, low-price component.
